Tasmanian Convention Bureau soars past targets

Six months into the financial year and Tasmania’s business events marketing body, The Tasmanian Convention Bureau, has already secured 153.83% of their annual target for the business Association market. This represents 13,845 delegates, 51,395 room nights and $21,634,000 for Tasmania. Tasmanian Convention Bureau (TCB) CEO Denise Bradley said “This is a phenomenal achievement for Tasmania. The international financial meltdown has not visibly impacted on Tasmania’s Association market.”

The TCB is also right on track with the corporate meeting and incentive market annual target for business events. The TCB has achieved 52.39% of the financial year target, which equates to 943 delegates, 2854 room nights and $1,380,700. Mrs. Bradley said that although the TCB is on target, Tasmania’s traditional corporate meeting and incentive (C&I) market could be impacted by the international financial crisis.

“Organisations are being more conscious of their meeting and incentive business travel programs and are possibly less likely to travel internationally at this time. We envisage that the C&I market will continue to be impacted in the short to mid-term but where there are threats there are also opportunities. The C&I market within Australia, that has previously travelled offshore, will be looking to travel more cost effectively within the county. They will still be looking for a “new”, exciting and decadent experience, which Tasmania can provide. The TCB believe that we can secure this business for Tasmania”. The TCB will launch a C&I promotional campaign in late January to showcase what Tasmania can offer to this market.
