Rendezvous gets top Marque in Perth

The Straits Trading Company through its wholly owned subsidiary Rendezvous Hotels Management has exchanged contracts to acquire the Emerald Hotel, Perth. Settlement is expected on or around 1 April 2008. At that time this four star, 101 room boutique hotel will be renamed The Marque Hotel Perth, to be operated within the Rendezvous Hotels & Resorts International Group as part of The Marque Collection of Hotels brand.

The hotel, currently a Best Western property, was purchased in a complex transaction from 60 individual strata titled owners. The hotel will join the existing Rendezvous property in West Australia’s capital city, Rendezvous Observation City Hotel and further expand the Rendezvous and Marque portfolio in the Asia Pacific region.

“We are excited to be the successful purchaser of the Emerald Hotel in Perth and believe it to be an excellent investment for The Straits Trading Group” says Mr Norman Ip, President of The Straits Trading Company Limited. “We are confident that The Marque Hotel Perth will capitalise upon WA’s natural resource boom and Perth’s appeal as Australia’s fastest-growing major city.”

Rendezvous Chief Executive, Mr Alan Featherby says Rendezvous’ appointment to operate the hotel will provide the group with an excellent addition to the already expanding portfolio. It also presents a natural twinning opportunity with our Rendezvous Observation City Hotel at Scarborough Beach Perth. “The new owner intends to upgrade the hotel to a Marque standard by undertaking a substantial refurbishment of the hotel in 2008,” says Mr Featherby.

“We also have a number of other projects underway and plan to have at least 15 more hotels and resorts signed in the Asia Pacific region within the next three years.”
