Message from Francesco Frangialli, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, to H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations (Madrid, Spain, 20 August 2003)

The Members, staff, and the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization wish to express their dismay, repugnance, and immense sadness over the brutal attack against the United Nations representation in Baghdad, which has caused a large number of casualties among the Organization’s workers, including UN Special Representative Mr. Sergio Vieira de Mello. They wish to convey to the victims’ families and to their colleagues in the United Nations their most sincere condolences and deepest sympathies. At a time when the World Tourism Organization is forging even closer ties with the United Nations, it assures the UN of its full solidarity during this ordeal, which affects our entire family.
