BANGKOK– Thailand confirmed its readiness to host the World Spa & Well-being Convention 2012, a truly world-class event to showcase the immense potential of the Thai spa, health and wellness sector which is expected to attract considerable numbers of global investors and trade visitors.

In conjunction with this event, to be held between 19 and 21 September 2012 at Hall 4, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre, the inaugural presentation of the Thailand Spa & Well-being Awards will also be organised as proof of the superior quality of products and services provided by local entrepreneurs.

With sponsorship support from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Thailand Exhibition and Convention Bureau (TCEB), Kamalaya and Valonika, the Thai Spa Association is joining forces with IMPACT Exhibition Management Co., Ltd to create the World Spa & Well – being Convention 2012 with the aim of enhancing Thailand’s international image as a comprehensive spa destination of choice in the Asia Pacific region.

According to Andrew Jacka, President of the Thai Spa Association (TSPA), the gathering will be one of the largest international gateways the spa and well-being industry has ever seen, offering a myriad of opportunities to network, build business connections and be inspired with a wide selection of seminars and conferences plus the demonstration of innovative technologies, products and services in the activities zones. The organiser expects the event will attract more than 8,000 professional buyers, investors and public citizens, from around the world.

“The association is very proud that TAT is placing such emphasis on this event as it acknowledges the high growth and development potential of the spa, health and wellness sector, which today has become one of Thailand’s key tourism products, having achieved international recognition for its preventive and curative benefits,” he said.

The sector is attracting millions of visitors annually ranging from medical tourists seeking treatment for various kinds of ailments to stressed-out executives seeking relaxation-therapies and industry practitioners seeking to learn the fine art of Thai massage.

TAT’s last available research shows that average length of stay for medical tourists ranges from a brief three days for a routine check-up to three weeks or more for plastic surgery. The average expenditure of patients seeking plastic surgery is estimated at 130,000 baht per head, (40 per cent for treatment, 60 per cent for travelling expenses).

The spa and wellness industry has also helped generate millions of jobs for local people while many of the organic and herbal products used by Thai spas are being exported worldwide.

The association’s vice president, Phattiraporn Kiewsanan, said confidently that the event could definitely satisfy the requirements of buyers and sellers. In addition to the exposition featuring a comprehensive range of business resources for the spa and health industries, an abundance of new experiences and opportunities for serious-minded industry professionals, or those looking to enter the industry can be found there, including a two-day international congress – World Spa & Well-being Congress 2012, led by professional speakers, world-renowned gurus, and industry players, under the theme of ‘Inspiration & Dedication’ with topics such ‘Inspired Potential:  How to Think Outside the Box of Convention and Soaring with the Eagles’ and ‘Dedicated Future: ASEAN Spa Standards’.
