London`s biggest ever showcase in China has kicked off a week long initiative to persuade more visitors to the capital. Positioned next to the Mllennium Monument in the heart of Beijing, the interactive London Experience highlight`s London`s contemporary and traditional attractions through state of the art displays, film and live actors.

The exhibition opened with a spectacular laser and lighting show featuring traditional Chinese and urban London dancers in a fusion of music and performance from both cultures.

A packed audience of invited guests, including Lord Coe, Chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG), travel trade and journalists, heard the Mayors of Beijing and London express their enthusiasm for the growing relationship between the two cities, made even stronger by their common status as host cities for the Olympic Games in 2008 and 2012.

The two Mayors had earlier signed a formal Partnership agreement between Beijing and London that will cement the mutual exchange of promotion and co-operation between the two cities.

Visit London Chief Executive James Bidwell, who hosted the launch event, said: China represents the most significant strategic growth opportunity for London on the planet. London`s presence here in Beijing has been incredibly well received and demonstrates Chinese appetite for our city as the leading destination to do business, study and of course visit as a tourist. With a forecasted one hundred million outbound tourists from China by 2020, Visit London`s focus on this key market will ensure that London is high on the desired list for potential travellers.

Visit London is holding high level talks with the Beijing Municipal Tourism Bureau as well as travel trade, airlines and the travel press to develop London`s profile in the burgeoning Chinese travel industry. The discussions will reinforce the agreement by both Mayors to work more closely together in the field of tourism.

James Bidwell also joined Ken Livingstone, Lord Coe and Paul Deighton from LOCOG on an Olympic site visit hosted by the Beijing Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (BOCOG).

James Bidwell said: Beijing 2008 and London 2012 are potent catalysts for our two cities as we forge a long term and meaningful partnership. The shared honour of host city status and the values of the Olympic movement provide the opportunity for London to accelerate its strategic activity in China and also share best practice in many areas from the environment to tourism. Thes talks have got these initiatives off to a fantastic start.

Visit London is a key partner in the Mayor of London`s mission to open offices in Beijing and Shanghai and to boost London`s profile in the fields of inward investment, tourism, education, design, film and the creative industries.

The mission will also visit Shanghai where further events, meetings and promotions will continue to showcase London in China.
