Kata Group Resorts Thailand to grow Chinese wedding market with Travel Wedding

Starting from 2017, the group and strategic coalition aims to host 2,000 weddings within three years, solidifying the group’s leading position in the industry.

PHUKET ISLAND, Thailand – Kata Group Resorts of Thailand announced a series of wedding and honeymoon products that are aimed at the Chinese outbound market, and which will be marketed throughout China with the help of the group’s strategic partner, Travel Weddings (Beijing) Ltd.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at Kanda Hall, in Kata Beach Resort & Spa, on the island of Phuket.

Starting from 2017, the group and strategic coalition aims to host 2,000 weddings within three years, solidifying the group’s leading position in the industry, and moulding Phuket into a Chinese must-go location for destination weddings.

Kata Group Resorts chairman Pramookpisitt Achariyachai said that China has become Thailand’s largest and fastest growing tourism market since the visa-on-arrival policy was applied, and that Kata Group will offer global-standard products and services specialised for the Chinese market.

This strategic cooperation with China is part of Kata Group’s strategy to differentiate products, shift into the high-end segment and penetrate deeply into the market,” said Mr Pramookpisitt.

“The group benefits from this vertical integration cooperation, as it allows us to more thoroughly and accurately understand the Chinese consumer. With a united and consistent sales and marketing strategy, our coalition will raise product awareness and sales.”

Travel Wedding (Beijing) CEO Zhang Sihua said that China has over 1.3 billion people, there are over 12 million couples getting married every year, the wedding industry has expanded to 1.5 trillion renminbi, which is 2.7 percent of the GDP, while there are over five million people going abroad to take wedding photos every year.

“With increasing incomes, information symmetry, and rapid improvements in transportation infrastructure,  foreign destinations have become an ever more popular choice for potential newlyweds,” he said.

“Destination weddings, wedding dress photoshoots, and honeymooning will allow Chinese couples to experience something that is completely different to a domestic wedding – stunning scenery, foreign cultures and a honeymoon at the same time.”

“This is the project’s core competency. Through Sino-Thai vertical integration, our products will have a leading advantage in terms of service, markets, and channels, giving us a competitive edge in the Chinese market.”
