(Jakarta) – After Dubai, Shanghai or Tokyo, Jakarta is now caught into the fever of building one of the world’s tallest building. Indonesian businessman Tomy Winata signed with US firm MGM Hospitality last Monday in Las Vegas a US$ two billion project to build a 638-meter tower in the Sudirman Central Business District in the heart of the Indonesian capital. The future iconic landmark will have 111 floors and will be Jakarta’s tallest building and the fifth highest in the world. It will be named Signature Tower and will house a hotel with a convention centre as well as a shopping centre. MGM Hospitality will manage and operate the future hotel and convention centre. According to the plans revealed following the signature of the agreement, the luxurious hotel property will be a 290-room “Bellagio” located in the top 20 floors. The convention centre will have a total floor area of 15,000 m2, with a capacity to welcome up to 6,000 delegates. The ground-breaking ceremony is expected before year-end while construction would take five years.
