At the recent annual conference of the International Association of Conference Centers, IACC Americas president Peter J. Stockmann presented two major awards that honor significant contributions to IACC education.

The 2012 Award of Excellence was presented to Allen Morgan, CMP, manager of operations and conference services at the Ivy Spencer Leadership Centre in London, Ontario. In presenting the award, IACC-Americas president Peter Stockmann noted that Morgan has been involved with IACC on “multiple levels”, having served on planning committee for IACC’s SPIN (Small Property Information Network) conferences for three years. He has also served as host of the Canadian Copper Skillet cook-off which decides which chef will represent Canada at IACC’s annual Copper Skillet culinary competition.

Morgan has also served actively on the Annual Conference Planning Committee where he helped organize and plan the Copper Skillet competition for the annual conference. He took an active role in incorporating a number of new ideas and techniques into the popular competition that highlights the artistry and skill of the best IACC chefs from around the globe.

The Award of Excellence was established ten years ago by the IACC Board of Directors to underscore IACC’s commitment to education and to give heightened recognition and visibility to those individuals who give of their time, talent and resources to expand and enhance IACC’s educational offerings. To be eligible, an individual must have contributed to this effort for at least two years.

IACC’s Pyramid Award was presented to Kristin Kurie, president of The Wilderman Group, for her 20+ years of service to the hospitality /conference center industry. The Pyramid Award is IACC’s highest educational honor. The award was established in 2000 to shine the spotlight on members who show a true and long-lasting commitment to IACC education.  “Kurie is widely acknowledged and respected” said Stockmann, “as one of the top gurus of conference center sales and marketing.” Kurie has been a frequent presenter at the IACC Annual Conference and is the author of the IACC Sales Course.

She served actively on the IACC Marketing Committee for a number of years and as a member of the IACC Board of Directors. She is recognized as one of the early voices of “sustainability “and was highly influential in establishing the IACC Sustainability Committee in 2006.

Based in Charleston, SC, The Wilderman Group provides hospitality management services, specializing in civic and community developments and creating effective and productive environmental for meetings and conferences in the Carolinas and the Southeast.
