InterContinental Almaty has opened welcoming both business and leisure guests in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Less than two months after the announcement of an agreement signed between Ayt-Otel (Ahsel Holding) and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), the former Regent Almaty Hotel has undergone an extensive refurbishment transforming it into the newly opened InterContinental Almaty.

Kazakhstan, at the crossroads of Europe and Asia and bordering both Russia and China, has undergone rapid development during the past few years thanks to its rich oil, gas and mineral reserves. As a result Almaty, the economic heart of the country, attracts business from all over the world, increasing demand for internationally branded hotels such as the newly opened InterContinental Almaty.

With the opening of the InterContinental Almaty, IHG now has almost 600 branded rooms in Kazakhstan, including the 294 room InterContinental Astana, in the country’s capital.

Jennifer Fox, Chief Operating Officer, InterContinental Brand Europe commented: “We are delighted to have converted and opened the InterContinental Almaty so quickly after the official signing at the end of August. Demand for internationally branded accommodation in Almaty is high and we are pleased to be at the forefront, offering luxurious accommodation, facilities and a unique guest service philosophy synonymous with the InterContinental brand.”

Alper Can Bulcum, who continues as the General Director of the hotel, added; “We look forward to securing a lead position in the city with the globally renowned InterContinental brand now that we are open for business and already welcoming guests from all over the world.”
