Hilton Worldwide Shanghai Office celebrates third annual Hilton Worldwide Global Week of Service

For this year's Global Week of Service, Hilton Worldwide's Shanghai Office collaborated with four hotels in Shanghai — Waldorf Astoria on the Bund, Hilton Shanghai, Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao and DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Shanghai Pudong — to collect and donate coffee grounds.

SHANGHAI – In celebration of Hilton Worldwide‘s third annual Global Week of Service, October 19 – 25, more than 50 volunteers from Hilton Worldwide’s Shanghai Office helped raise awareness for the environment and engaged an elderly community at a local retirement home.

Community service is an integral part of Hilton Worldwide’s culture, and acts of volunteerism occur year-round across our portfolio of eleven distinct brands and more than 4,200 properties. Hilton Worldwide’s Shanghai Office efforts are a part of Hilton Worldwide’s week-long annual celebration of the company’s commitment to serving and enriching the communities where we live, work and travel.

Global Week of Service highlights our company’s commitment to the environment and local communities. Here in Shanghai, our team is pleased to partner HandsOn Shanghai — a non-profit organization focused on promoting volunteerism — to pledge our time and support towards these important causes,” said Bruce McKenzie, senior vice president of operations, Greater China & Mongolia, Hilton Worldwide.

For this year’s Global Week of Service, Hilton Worldwide’s Shanghai Office collaborated with four hotels in Shanghai — Waldorf Astoria on the Bund, Hilton Shanghai, Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao and DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Shanghai Pudong — to collect and donate coffee grounds. Team members paired up with children from the Sunshine Home, a school for the mentally disabled at Minhang District, to visit Xingeng Workshop-Cenbo Ecological Culture LOHAS Village, an organic farm in Qingpu District, where they teamed up to apply the donated coffee grounds as organic fertilizer, and learn about organic farming by harvesting corn and sesame, among other plants. Team members also visited Longxi Elderly Nursing Home, a local retirement home, and brought a touch of cheer and greenery to the elderly: through hand-decorated flowerpots, each with a decorative plant grown using the organic coffee grounds.

As advocated by our founder Mr. Conrad Hilton, our vision is to fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality. This serves as a daily reminder to all our team members to uphold our core values,” said Lawrence Lee, vice president, Human Resources,Greater China & Mongolia, Hilton Worldwide, “Global Week of Service brings our vision to life by motivating and engaging team members to extend hospitality beyond our hotel walls. It is an opportunity to further drive improved performance – benefitting our guests, our communities and the environment.

We are proud to partner with Hilton Worldwide once again during this year’s Global Week of Service,” said Richard Brubaker, founder and executive volunteer of HandsOn Shanghai.

HandsOn Shanghai and Hilton Worldwide worked together on several successful projects previously, such as Beach Cleaning Project, Healing Home Project and Stair Climbing Project. This year’s cooperation signifies yet another successful partnership between our two organizations to make our community healthier, greener, more prosperous and equitable.

Global Week of Service is Hilton Worldwide’s largest annual volunteer service initiative and brings together team members from across Hilton Worldwide’s offices and hotel properties, helping to strengthen the company’s connections with its local communities and bringing Team Members closer together.

During Global Week of Service, Team Members are encouraged to share their personal stories of service and hospitality. Throughout the week, photos and stories will be posted at www.hiltonworldwide.com/serve, on the Hilton Worldwide Facebook page and on the @HiltonWorldwide Twitter account.

In 2013, Team Members at more than 900 properties and offices completed more than 2,400 volunteer projects in 700 cities across the company’s global footprint. The projects focused on engaging Team Members and delivering on Hilton Worldwide’s commitment to Travel with Purpose by creating opportunities, strengthening communities, celebrating cultures and living sustainably. This year, the company aims to build upon this community engagement and is striving to complete more than 3,000 service projects.
