Hilton Hotels appoints new GM for flagship hotel in China

Hilton Hotels has appointed seasoned industry professional, Guy Hutchinson to lead the Hilton Shanghai, one of company’s longest standing hotels in Asia, and the first international upscale hotel to open in China in 1988. Guy Hutchinson will take on the role of General Manager of Hilton Shanghai with effect from 22nd March 2008. Guy will succeed Volkmar Ruebel who managed the iconic hotel from 1995 to 2008, and is retiring from the company.

Commenting on the appointment, Koos Klein, Area President Hilton Hotels – Asia Pacific, said, “Since the Hilton Shanghai opened in 1988, it has gained a reputation for its excellent service and focus on team member development. We are delighted that Guy Hutchinson will be able to build on this success achieved by Volkmar Ruebel during his time as General Manager”.

Guy Hutchinson joined Hilton Hotels in 1997 and is currently the General Manager of Hilton Carins, Australia, where he has been stationed since 2005. During this time, he has steered the hotel through a shift to online booking channels and has seen the property emerge as a market leader amongst the city’s five star hotels. Hilton Hotels would like to thank Volkmar Ruebel for his valuable contribution to the company over the past 40 years and to positioning the Hilton Shanghai where it is today.
