The Roots Routes has launched four different routes that are ready to discover during Bangkok Design Week 2023 from 4th – 12th of February.
BANGKOK – The Roots Routes invites curious residents of Bangkok and travellers to explore some of the hidden stories of Old Bangkok. For Bangkok Design Week 2023, The Roots Routes has selected four tailored routes to discover the other side of town – Thonburi.
The Roots Routes is the new kid on the block when it comes to alternative, deep and culturally infused travel experiences in Bangkok. The start-up pursues the mission to deliver deeper travel experiences, flexibility and more fun while exploring Bangkok (and soon) other destinations in Thailand.
While the focus is on developing self-guided tours for individual travellers that have a vivid interest in a deeper understanding of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, local stories, off the beaten track explorations and fun travel experiences, The Roots Routes has launched four different routes that are ready to discover during Bangkok Design Week 2023 from 4th – 12th of February. The different tours are guided by experts in the fields of Archaeology and Landscape architecture, so you will not only have a fun day out exploring, but you will also learn what is behind all that beauty. Routes that are offered during the Design Week include Melting Pot of Trading, The Lives of Orchards, Reflections of Siamese Art & Culture and A Walk of Five Generations, each with a different theme.
With a strong focus on cultural heritage, Sirada Pichayapaiboon, Founder of The Roots Routes says “it is our goal to redefine cultural heritage by crafting experiences that support the local communities, showcase the diversity of the region and give access to local knowledge and wisdoms – all while having full flexibility and quality content in order to preserve living heritage and local stories”. With an ever changing travel market, post-covid trends and demographic changes, The Roots Routes aims to attract curious travellers that do not want full travel packages, but rather select experiences focused on their interests. “We are well aware that The Roots Routes is going pretty niche, but we strongly believe that travellers are ready to be more creative and dainty when it comes to exploring a new cultural context”, says Stefan Scheerer, Co-Founder of The Roots Routes.
Currently, the team of The Roots Routes is developing an online platform that will help travellers explore on their own, following the motto “from Our Roots, to Your Routes”. Playing with different senses, media and technologies, this will be an innovative way of exploring, beginning in Bangkok and Thailand first, with expansions planned within the Greater Mekong sub-region.
