Goa records 13.5 per cent increase in tourist arrivals for October 2014

Domestic tourist arrivals for the month of October has surpassed last year’s figure recording a  13.8 per cent increase. Similarly, 11 per cent increase has also been recorded in the foreign tourist arrivals in October 2014.

PANJIM – October 2014 has broken all records for Goa Tourism in terms of tourist arrivals, an increase of 13.5 per cent compared to the previous years has been reported. 
 
According to statistics released by the Department of Tourism, 4,76,861 tourists visited Goa in October this year as against 4,20,142 tourists in October 2013. Domestic tourist arrivals for the month of October has surpassed last year’s figure recording a  13.8 per cent increase. Similarly, 11 per cent increase has also been recorded in the foreign tourist arrivals in October 2014.
 
The Department of Tourism has released statistics for the month of October  which shows that in October 2014, as many as 4,32,905 domestic tourists visited Goa and 43,956 foreign tourists visited Goa. Out of this 15,387, were charter tourists. A total of 14,318 charter passengers arrived from Russia this October, while 1,069 arrived from Ukraine.
 
Shri Dilip Parulekar, Minister for Tourism, Govt. of Goa said, “Goa saw an unprecedented number of tourists arriving in October 2014. There were two long weekends and a lot of festivals that fuelled this rush. We also observed that a lot of families visited Goa during this time and are glad to note that the state is also a popular destination of choice for family holidays. It is a great way to begin the season and we are optimistic that the arrivals will continue to increase.
