Dr. Jens Thraenhart joins the African Asian Union (AFASU) Executive Board and Golden Awards Committee, marking a significant step in fostering collaboration between African and Asian nations in tourism.

Dr. Jens Thraenhart, a distinguished strategy consultant and entrepreneur, has been welcomed into the ranks of the African Asian Union (AFASU) as a member of both the AFASU Golden Awards Committee and the AFASU Executive Board.

In a significant move in November 2021, Dr. Jens Thraenhart assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), the official national tourism organization of Barbados in the Caribbean. Prior to this, he held the position of Executive Director at the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO) for nearly eight years. MTCO, governed by the governments of Thailand, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and PR China, and the founder of the private sector-oriented regional tourism board, Destination Mekong. Dr. Thraenhart also served on the Board of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and previously chaired PATA China. He established Chameleon Strategies in 1999, a consulting firm specializing in tourism strategy and marketing, which is an Affiliate Member of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Dr. Hossam Darwish, President of AFASU, expressed his pride and satisfaction at the inclusion of Dr. Jens Thraenhart within the AFASU team.

Dr. Jens Thraenhart is an accomplished international tourism expert, with whom Dr. Darwish has maintained a close professional relationship for over 15 years. Their collaborative efforts span multiple projects, including e-tourism conferences held in Egypt since 2008. Additionally, they jointly conducted lectures at the Riyadh International Tourism Fair in 2012 and participated in e-tourism conferences in Lebanon. This shared history underscores Dr. Jens Thraenhart’s invaluable contribution to AFASU.

Dr. Adel Al-Muslimani, CEO of AFASU, extended a warm welcome to Dr. Jens Thraenhart as a member of both the Executive Board and the AFASU Golden Awards Committee, expressing his best wishes for his endeavors.

Adding to the sentiment, Major General Hossam Badr El-Din, Executive Vice President of AFASU, conveyed his satisfaction in welcoming Dr. Jens Thraenhart to the union. He expressed confidence that his expertise will attract more members from Asia and Africa to AFASU, bolstering the union’s stature.

Dr. Jens Thraenhart shared his enthusiasm for joining AFASU, commending the leadership for their visionary approach in recognizing the potential of collaboration between African and Asian nations. This collaboration, aimed at fostering mutual understanding, peace, sustainability, and climate resilience, marks an important step forward.

Elaborating on AFASU, Dr. Hossam Darwish emphasized its international nature, spanning offices and members across various Afro-Asian countries. Rooted in the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organization (AAPSO), AFASU traces its origin to the Bandung Conference in Indonesia, led by Nasser, Tito, and Nehru under the name of the Non-Aligned Movement. Currently, AAPSO and AFASU encompass 90 African and Asian countries and hold memberships in prominent international organizations, including the United Nations, World Trade Organization, UNCTAD, Arab League, and the African Union.

Under the global leadership of Prof. Dr. Helmy El-Hadidi, former Minister of Health in the Arab Republic of Egypt, AAPSO is administratively overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt.
