Tourism Australia managing director John O’Sullivan said it was pleasing to see the continued growth in international tourism to Australia, with visitor numbers nearing 8 million annually. In the first seven months of 2016, Australia welcomed 4.5 million international visitors – up 12 per cent on the seven months to July last year.

Australia welcomed 716,000 international visitor arrivals during July, an increase of 14.1 per cent, and the seventh consecutive month of double-digit growth in international visitor arrivals this year.

Tourism Australia managing director John O’Sullivan said it was pleasing to see the continued growth in international tourism to Australia, with visitor numbers nearing 8 million annually.

The latest results show that international visitor numbers rose more than 10 per cent (10.6%) to a record 7.9 million for the 12 months to July this year,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

The strong growth in tourism to Australia was driven by double digit growth from our key markets in Asia such as China (+23.2%), Hong Kong (+14.8%), Korea (+23%), Japan (+17.2%), Singapore (+15.3%), Malaysia (+10.7%), as well as a nine per cent rise in visitors from India.

Alongside increases in visitors from Asia, continued growth from markets such as the USA (+15.5%), UK (+5.4%), and New Zealand (3.3%) help to boost the overall performance of our sector, resulting in an additional 760,000 visitors for the year,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
