The Australian Tourism Labour Force Report: 2015-2020, produced by Deloitte Access Economics and released by Austrade, estimates the industry will need an additional 123,000 additional workers (including 60,000 skilled) to meet visitor demand in the next 5 years.
With Australia’s export tourism earnings projected to grow at an average of 3.8% over the next 10 years, the industry will create demand for additional jobs across Australia, including regional and rural areas.
“Australia’s export tourism market is expected to lead growth in the sector over the next 10 years to see more than 10 million international visitors by 2024-25, and this will put pressure on our labour force demand,” ATEC Managing Director, Peter Shelley said.
“This labour demand, including a projected 60,000 skilled workers, will be vital to our ability to successfully deliver a quality Australian tourism experience and our ongoing success in competing in the international visitor market place.“
“Australia’s export tourism industry is a leading light in our economic success, currently contributing in more than $33 billion in export earnings annually and our industry needs the support of Government to support this success.”
