On 21 June 2011 Alpine Center signed a collaborative partnership agreement with Beijing International Studies University’s School of International Education. The agreement establishes a formal procedure between the two institutions to enable students who have completed a course of study at BISU to progress with advanced standing to the Cruise Ship Hotel Operations Management course at Alpine Center in Greece. The agreement will provide opportunities for Chinese students to embark on successful careers in the rapidly growing cruise industry. It will also promote student exchanges between Greece and China.
Commenting on its significance for Alpine Center, President Sybil Hofmann said: “Alpine’s new course in Cruise Ship Hotel Operations Management was designed to meet the growing need for qualified professionals to work on the thriving cruise ship industry. With Asia’s huge potential as a booming cruise market, combined with China’s rapidly developing cruise industry which is becoming one of the fastest growing sectors of domestic tourism, this is a timely move towards preparing young Chinese men and women for careers in this industry. We were very excited when BISU’s academic leadership expressed an interest in transferring students to Greece to enrol on this course and at the same time expand their cultural awareness of the Western World.”
In welcoming the agreement, Mrs Zhang Rongrong, Vice Dean of The School of International and Continuing Education stated that BISU is considered one of the most international universities in China, welcoming students from all over the world. It has 8 Language Departments and 8 Schools, one of which is the School of Tourism Management which has over 1500 students. Aware of the importance of international cooperation, BISU has established a number of cooperative programs with universities in over a dozen countries. “The rise of China as a top tourist destination has been astounding, and the need for our students to seek international educational trends will contribute to their career success. This collaboration with Alpine Center will take our students to Greece, the western world’s cradle of civilization and laboratory of tourism at the same time, and offer them a world class education in cruise ship management” commented Mrs Zhang.
In order to promote this newly founded partnership, representatives of BISU including Mr Yu Chunhai, Programe Director, and Ms Suiling Resag, Marketing Consultant, and Alpine Center’s President Hofmann and Jordan Eliades, visited the Hellenic Embassy in Beijing to express their wish to organize, under the auspices of the Embassy, a Greek Festival at BISU’s Campus in May 2012. The idea was welcomed and Alpine students enrolled on the Events & Conventions programme of study will be busy at the beginning of the new academic year as they take on this exciting project that will open the doors for student exchanges.
