Korea MICE Expo 2023: Embracing diversity in Incheon’s Songdo Convensia

Korea MICE EXPO

KME2023, celebrating its 24th year, symbolizes MICE industry convergence, diversity, and expansion. Over 300 entities join, transcending regional boundaries for global collaboration.

The Korea MICE Expo 2023 (KME2023) will be held at the Songdo Convensia in Incheon, South Korea, this coming November 16 (Thu) until November 17 (Fri). On its 24th anniversary, the ‘KOREA MICE EXPO’ is the premier event of the MICE Industry in South Korea. This event is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, organized by the Korea MICE Association (KMA) and the Incheon Tourism Organization (ITO), and sponsored by the Incheon Metropolitan City and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO). From this year forward, the event will shift in structure to a private sector-led initiative with support from the general public.

Centered on the theme of “Towards a Future that Embraces Diversity and Expansion“, KME2023 highlights the significance of the MICE industry as a prominent convergence sector as MICE events require collaboration among stakeholders from various fields. KME2023 will showcase the diversity of the MICE Industry, with over 300 organizations and companies participating as exhibitors, such as regional tourism organizations, convention centers, event planning companies, service providers, unique venues, hotels, travel agencies, IT firms, local governments, and tourism offices, etc. *Regional MICE Alliances from each region including the host city, Incheon, Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungcheongbuk-do, Daejeon, Gwangju, Jeonbuk, Jeollanam-do Yeosu, Daegu, Gyeongju, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, Busan, and Jeju will be participating. Since MICE stakeholders from all over the country will participate, the Exhibition Hall can be viewed as a microcosm of the Korea MICE industry. Participating exhibitors will engage in business consultations with local and international buyers over two days.

Apart from the Exhibition Hall, the diversity of the MICE industry is reflected in the various programs. Recognizing the industry problem, in which MICE is primarily concentrated in the metropolitan areas despite the availability of support organizations and venues for hosting MICE events across the country, the KME2023 seeks to boost regional MICE activation by providing international buyers the opportunity to experience other regions as potential MICE venues. During the event, the MICE Destination Presentation will introduce Gyeongju and Incheon as MICE venues. Moreover, tour programs including the unique features of four regions—Incheon, Gyeongju & Ulsan, Daegu & Gyeongbuk, and Geoje & Gimhae—will be offered before and after the event.

In addition, KME2023 has various sessions that cover a wide range of topics related to the MICE industry. With a total of 14 sessions, attendees can gain insights on the latest issues, and the global landscape of the MICE industry. The sessions will tackle e-sports, ChatGPT, digital transformation, MICE industry policies, trends, marketing, organization and leadership, human resources, and recruitment. There will also be K-MICE case studies, bidding workshops, and the Asia-Pacific MICE Leaders’ Forum.

This year, in particular, the global session featuring international MICE-related organizations is garnering attention. [Session 14] The Bidding Workshop, which will be conducted in partnership with the *ICCA, will focus on developing bidding strategies with a MICE event case and sharing insights on global trends and data.

The Association’s Team Leader, Kate Lee expressed, “KME2023 will serve as a platform to connect both local and international MICE industry stakeholder,” and added, “We look forward to the enthusiasm and the active participation of those attending KME2023, as well as the collaboration of various companies and organizations that transcend national and regional boundaries.”
