Hong Kong’s WinterFest 2023: Tourism surge with festive attractions

HKTB Winter Festival

Hong Kong WinterFest 2023 promises to boost tourism with new Winter Harbourfront Pyrotechnics and exciting attractions at Disneyland.

Hong Kong is poised to experience a remarkable surge in tourism during its annual “Hong Kong WinterFest” from November 24, 2023, to January 1, 2024. This year’s event, enhanced by the debut of the “Winter Harbourfront Pyrotechnics,” promises to attract a significant number of visitors with its spectacular festive displays. The pyrotechnic shows, scheduled for three consecutive weekends and the Christmas holidays starting December 9, will feature festive icons embellishing the iconic Hong Kong skyline.

This festive period will also see the opening of the world’s first and largest Frozen-themed land at Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park’s incorporation of “Le Petit Prince” in their Christmas Sensation HOHOHO 2023. These attractions, along with a variety of seasonal events throughout the city, solidify Hong Kong’s reputation as one of Asia’s premier winter holiday destinations.

Hong Kong Tourism Board Executive Director Mr. Dane Cheng highlighted the city’s rich Christmas atmosphere, emphasizing the anticipated boost in tourism due to the WinterFest’s unique offerings, including the new pyrotechnics display and the giant Christmas Tree. These attractions, along with novel experiences at Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park, are expected to significantly contribute to the city’s visitor numbers.

The “Winter Harbourfront Pyrotechnics,” set to illuminate the city’s coast, builds on the success of the summer’s “Harbour Chill Carnival” and is scheduled for eight evenings in December. These displays will complement the redesigned Christmas Town at the West Kowloon Cultural District, which features a towering Christmas tree and a host of festive installations and activities.

With the cumulative visitor arrivals from January to October 2023 already surpassing projections, the HKTB is optimistic about exceeding the 30 million visitor mark for the year. This confidence is underpinned by the robust recovery observed in tourist numbers from Southeast Asian markets, notably the Philippines and Thailand, and the array of events and activities planned for the winter season.
