Virgin Australia and the Australian Football League (AFL) announced a new five-year agreement, extending the partnership until the end of 2023.

The new agreement also spans across the NAB AFL Women’s competition, providing both the men’s and women’s league access to Virgin Australia services and benefits including baggage allowances, lounge access and an AFL team travel solution, supporting the teams’ unique requirements.

Virgin Australia Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, John Borghetti AO, said: “Virgin Australia has proudly been the Official Airline Partner of the AFL since 2010, transporting the 18 clubs, their teams and fans across the country.

“Securing the deal with Australia’s most popular sport for another five years means we can continue making games even more accessible for passionate AFL fans across Australia.

“The AFL has the highest attendance of any sporting code in Australia and with over seven million fans attending games so far in 2018, it’s a key driver of domestic and international tourism. We also look forward to welcoming the AFL Women’s teams on our flights and helping to grow the women’s league in Australia,” Mr Borghetti said.

AFL Chief Executive Officer Gillon McLachlan said: “I’m so pleased Virgin Australia will continue to help the AFL be a truly national game, through their support to all levels of football, from the grassroots to the elite men’s and women’s competitions.

“Virgin Australia has always put the needs of our fans, players and officials at the forefront of their services, and I’m excited at what we’ll be able to collectively achieve with them over the next five years,” he said. Virgin Australia will continue to enhance the fan experience via the AFL Virgin Australia’s travel program, AFL Travel.
