Crowne Plaza Changi Airport receives its third 3R Awards for hotels by SHA and NEA

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport was the first hotel in Singapore to be awarded the EarthCheck Gold Certification in 2014 and received numerous other awards such as the ASEAN Green Hotel Award 2014 – 2016 and 2016 – 2018, and the Singapore Green Hotel Award in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

SINGAPORE – Crowne Plaza Changi Airport has won the 3R Awards for Hotels (Merit) 2018, jointly presented by Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) and National Environment Agency (NEA) to recognise hotels for going the extra mile to reduce, reuse and recycle. Crowne Plaza Changi Airport received its first 3R Awards for Hotels in 2014 and its  second award in 2016. This attests to its commitment to environmental sustainability and reaffirms its position as one of the most eco-friendly hotels in Singapore.

Bruno Cristol, General Manager of Crowne Plaza Changi Airport said, “We are very heartened to be recognised once again for our ongoing commitment to protecting the environment. We know our guests care about sustainability as much as we do, and we will continue to step up on our green efforts to reduce our environmental impact and engage guests on our green journey to create sustainable change.”

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport constantly endeavours to improve the hotel’s environmental and social performance not only through compliance with regulations, but by initiating sustainability efforts to help the environment and community. The hotel has put in place an Environmental Management Committee (EMC) which spearheads these measures. Some of the most notable green efforts include being an early adopter of EcoWiz, a cutting-edge waste food digester
which converts food waste into water, employing technology innovation in guestrooms to conserve water, as well as providing soap and linens for recycling and repurposing to benefit underprivileged communities. Other initiatives include displaying the hotel’s environmental policy on the notice boards for staff and environmental awareness cards in the guestrooms.

To encourage recycling efforts, recycling bins are placed in guestrooms, lift lobbies at public areas and offices. As part of its commitment to 3R efforts, the hotel uses refillable dispensers for liquid soap to reduce the use of disposable plastic bottles. The hotel also works with suppliers to deliver goods without or with less packaging.

The hotel integrates sustainable approaches into its design. The facade screen was conceptualised as three-dimensional lace screens resembling orchid petals that could provide shade for guestrooms and public spaces, and a sense of peace and tranquility for travellers. The naturally ventilated and lit open-air walkways and the ceiling to floor glass windows in the guestrooms allow natural light into the rooms, decreasing the need for artificial light. Eco-friendly materials such as re-constituted timber are used for all timber decks of the swimming pool. Cooling towers are also in place to provide water and energy savings.

The hotel’s commitment to sustainability has been recognised through the years.
