Turkish Airlines expands global reach with flights to Melbourne, Australia

Turkish Airlines, renowned for its extensive global network, is set to make a significant stride in its journey by adding Melbourne, Australia, to its flight network. As an airline that has proudly connected passengers to 345 destinations across 129 countries spanning five continents, Turkish Airlines is now gearing up to venture into the sixth continent with flights to Australia.

The expansion into Australia has been a long-anticipated move for Turkish Airlines, aligning with its growth strategy to continually broaden its unique flight network. Melbourne, a destination of considerable interest, has finally found its place on the airline’s agenda.

Starting from March 15, 2024, Turkish Airlines will launch three weekly flights to Melbourne, marking its 346th destination in 130 countries. This significant addition not only strengthens Turkish Airlines’ global presence but also contributes to the tourism and trade volumes of both Turkey and Australia. By facilitating travel on the Istanbul-Melbourne route, Turkish Airlines will serve as a bridge, fostering cultural exchange and economic cooperation between the two nations.

What sets this expansion apart is that Turkish Airlines will relay its flights through Singapore, making it the only European airline currently operating flights to Melbourne Airport. This strategic move further cements Turkish Airlines’ position as a global aviation leader.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, expressed his enthusiasm for this milestone. He stated, “Today is an important day for us. We have realized our goal of reaching the continent of Australia, which we have been successfully working on for a while, with the confirmed flight date.”

He emphasized that Turkish Airlines’ distinction as the airline flying to more countries than any other in the world fuels their motivation to work harder, with dedication and enthusiasm. Adding Melbourne as the 346th destination to their flight network signifies a significant achievement. Dr. Bolat highlighted the beauty and hospitality of Australia, underlining their commitment to strengthening their presence in the country.

Supported by the Victorian Government and Melbourne Airport, this new route will connect Turkey with Australia’s largest Turkish community, creating opportunities for cultural exchange and trade. It will also enhance Melbourne’s accessibility to European, Middle Eastern, Balkan, and African markets via Istanbul, boosting tourism, international education, business, and trade potential for both regions.
