Τiger Airways announces daily flights to newest destination Cairns

Australia’s low fare airline, Tiger Airways, announces it will commence daily flights to newest destination Cairns, from 16 September 2010, with fares on sale on the Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) – Cairns route.

Tiger Airways Australia Commercial Director, Steve Burns, says “we’re thrilled to be flying to Cairns, providing another new destination and new catchment area in the far north of Queensland, with access to consistently the lowest airfares.

“We’re an airline that continually evolves based on customer demand for more affordable air travel alternatives. It’s fantastic that now the people of Cairns and new regions of north Queensland can join the Low Fare Revolution that Tiger Airways has brought to Australia. It’s an exciting time of significant growth for Tiger Airways in Australia as we continue to expand our paw print across the nation. With today’s announcement, Tiger Airways now flies into every major city and across 19 routes spanning every state and territory.”

Cairns Airport Pty Ltd Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Gregg, welcomes today’s announcement and the commencement of Tiger Airways flights. “We are very pleased to see a positive result to our negotiations with Tiger Airways and welcome them as the newest airline to come to Cairns Airport and as one of our key low-cost aviation partners who will bring a new section of the market to Cairns” Mr Gregg said.

Tourism Tropical North Queensland’s Chief Executive Officer, Rob Giason, said “Melbourne and regional Victoria are among Tropical North Queensland’s most important domestic tourism markets with some 200,000 people arriving from these areas each year. The additional capacity and competitive fares offered on Tiger’s Melbourne – Cairns route will provide additional opportunity to grow these visitor numbers.”

Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff also commended the new services. “Melbourne Airport is proud to facilitate the expansion of Tiger Airways’ domestic destinations and we congratulate Tiger Airways on reaching every major city in Australia.  This new Melbourne to Cairns route will further strengthen the already solid low fare offering out of Melbourne Airport and provide travellers with an even greater choice.”

Mr Burns urges people wanting to seek the most affordable domestic airfares for domestic flights around Australia to sign up to the eNewsletter on the website homepage to keep informed about latest news and sales information directly from Tiger Airways. “Pounce online today to snap up the best fares! Book early and fly cheaper,” he says.
