Wellington nabs international conference worth $1.38 million

New Zealand won the rights to host the XXIII Annual Conference of the International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM) which will be held across Wellington’s TSB Bank Arena.

Wellington will welcome 650 international scholars in 2019 thanks to the joint efforts of Victoria University of Wellington, Tourism New Zealand and Business Events Wellington
 
New Zealand won the rights to host the XXIII Annual Conference of the International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM) which will be held across Wellington’s TSB Bank Arena, Shed 6 and at the Victoria University campus.
 
The bid was made by Professor Brad Jackson, Head of School of Government at Victoria University of Wellington who says, “Tourism New Zealand and Business Events Wellington played a vital role in our successful bid to host in 2019.”
 
“This conference will bring over 600 public management scholars from across the world to share the best research and practice in public management. We look forward to working with our valued partners to create a remarkable learning experience here in Wellington.”
 
Tourism New Zealand’s International Business Events and Premium Manager Lisa Gardiner says, “international events such as this provide a huge opportunity to grow the value of visitors to New Zealand.”
 
“Business events and conference delegates have the potential to spread visitors across the off-peak season, support employment and bring significant economic benefit to the country.”
 
Business Events Wellington’s Events and Partnership Manger Jessica Beyeler says, “Business Events Wellington is delighted to have secured yet another international conference through our collaboration with Tourism New Zealand and Victoria University which is proving to be a successful formula.”
 
“We have some amazing world leaders and advocates in our tertiary institutions and working with them to uncover the international conference opportunities is really exciting and rewarding for Wellington, and all those involved in the process.”
 
Lisa says, “Tourism New Zealand has significantly increased its activity in the business events sector in the last few years, and this result is a great example of our focus to work collaboratively with industry to grow delegate numbers and value.”
 
Tourism New Zealand have bid for 58 international conferences for New Zealand since July 2015 – if successful this will see an estimated $77.5 million injected into the New Zealand economy.
