Melbourne wins the title of World’s Most Liveable City for the fourth year in a row

Melbourne this week was also named the world’s friendliest city by Conde Nast Traveler magazine, saying it was Australia’s “capital of cool” and noted it was “no surprise readers adore Melbourne”.

Melbourne has again been named the best city in the world to live in for the fourth year running, topping the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Liveability Index.

The EIU’s Liveability Ranking measures living conditions in 140 countries across five overarching criteria of stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

Melbourne achieved perfect scores of 100 on healthcare, education and infrastructure and a perfect 100 in the sub-category of sport.

Chief Executive Officer of Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB), Karen Bolinger said to receive the accolade of World’s Most Liveable City four years in a row was a great achievement for the city and recognised its enviable lifestyle as the perfect place to live, work and do business.

“The World’s Most Liveable City award highlights that Melbourne is a unique, exciting and welcoming city and reinforces the city’s position as a leading destination for conferences and meetings,” Ms Bolinger said.

“The city has an outstanding track record of hosting some of the world’s largest and most prestigious international conferences and as a host city delivers a delegate experience based on ease, accessibility and convenience.”

Ms Bolinger said that as the World’s Most Liveable City the conference experience is made complete as delegates can easily explore the city in their downtime by foot or on modern public transport to discover Melbourne’s thriving culture, restaurants and hidden laneways.

Melbourne this week was also named the world’s friendliest city by Conde Nast Traveler magazine, saying it was Australia’s “capital of cool” and noted it was “no surprise readers adore Melbourne”.
