BANGKOK – The 8th PATAcademy-HCD, under the theme ‘Unlocking the secrets to effective public speaking’, takes place at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Engagement Hubin Bangkok, Thailand on June 26 – 28.
This latest programme from PATA is designed to empower participants to develop the skills required to connect with and inspire others, to build trust and credibility and to be clear and energetic in their speeches and presentations.
PATA CEO Dr. Mario Hardy said, “Public speaking is no longer an option in professional life. Whether you are a CEO, a business owner or a line manager you are a public speaker every day – addressing many stakeholder groups including workplace colleagues and the workforce at large. Beyond the immediate confines of any business or professional organisation, public speaking skills help you to communicate important messages – even when you are not on stage. Your skills in public speaking are tested every day in many different scenarios – from a major sales pitch to a recruitment interview.
“For many, public speaking is scary; there is a fear of judgement and fear of embarrassment. Through this well-developed PATA programme we will set out to improve the quality of speakers in our industry. It is important that the travel and tourism industry has a greater number of impactful speakers, not only to invoke change but also to inspire the next generation of industry professionals,” added Dr. Hardy.
During the three-day programme participants learn to develop a unique individual style, assess speaking skill, practice a range of techniques, present with impact and presence, capture the audience’s attention, maintain confidence and handling nerves, and cope better in difficult situations.
The interactive programme provides participants with a raft of opportunities to practice their skills and is led by two international experts in public speaking training: Amelie Yan-Gouiffes, International Speaker, Conference Facilitator and Inner Diamond Mine; and Stu Lloyd, Chief Hothead – Hotheads Innovation and TopDog & Training Director at CATMATDOG.
The programme also includes a site visit entitled ‘Talad Noi Treasure Hunt‘ organised by HiveSters. Field visits in and around Bangkok are key to the immersive training experience. Guided by local experts, participants immerse themselves in the unique culture and heritage of the Thai-Chinese Bangkok neighbourhood of Talad Noi before sharing their adventures through a public speaking practice session at a rooftop bar overseeing the city’s famous Chao Phraya River.
Participants who have successfully completed the course will be awarded a PATAcademy-HCD certificate entitled: ‘Certified Asia Pacific – Unlocking the secrets to effective public speaking’.
