This event was incepted in 2017 and since then it has been staged annually providing an awesome golfing experience to participants whilst strengthening their networking and camaraderie between the golf fraternities in Johor and other states as well as the nearby countries.

DESARU COAST, JOHOR BHARU – The Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean and Valley once again played host to the 5th edition of the Tourism Johor Golf Tournament 2022 for Tunku Panglima Johor Challenge Trophy on 3 and 4 December 2022 rounding up a total of 160 avid golfers playing over 36 holes over two days.

Col. Mohd Jamal Salleh, the President of Johor Golf Tourism Association (JGTA) said, “With the kind blessings and consent from JGTA’s royal patron Tunku Panglima Johor, His Highness Tunku Abdul Rahman ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Johor Golf Tourism Association (JGTA) supported by Tourism Malaysia and Tourism Johor once again organised the fifth edition of Tourism Johor Golf Tournament 2022 for Tunku Panglima Johor Challenge Trophy at the stunning Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean & Valley Course, Johor Darul Ta’zim. We humbly express our sincere gratitude to His Highness Tunku Abdul Rahman ibni Sultan Ibrahim for his gracious consent and continuing strong support towards this tournament which has now become one of the most coveted golf events in the country with growing followership each year.”

This event was incepted in 2017 and since then it has been staged annually providing an awesome golfing experience to participants whilst strengthening their networking and camaraderie between the golf fraternities in Johor and other states as well as the nearby countries. It is a chance for avid golfers to have great fun, play golf on two beautiful golf courses and stand a chance to win many great prizes as well. This tournament is focused on the fun experience and good time for the golfers from their arrival at the golf course to departure.

Col. Jamal further added that due to the overwhelming response JGTA received in 2021 the organiser decided to host a bigger, bolder and merrier event by hosting a 2-day golf tournament over 36 holes this year that concluded with a prize presentation luncheon at The Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean Course. In 2021 a total of 166 local and international golfers from the UK, Belgium, Japan, Korea and Indonesia had participated in the tournament. This year marked another milestone as 160 golfers had participated in the 36 holes tournament over the two days at Ocean and Valley. Majority of the international golfers are from Singapore with 6 ladies who had participated in the Ladies Division. The other international golfers are from the US, UK, Netherlands, France, Australia, South Africa, and Indonesia. Col. Jamal also said JGTA observed that this tournament has grown from strength to strength every year from the continuing strong support and participation from so many golfers indicating that the golf tourism industry in Johor Darul Ta’zim is looking very promising in the future. JGTA wishes to see more tournaments that are able to attract participation not only from within Johor but more so from other parts of the country.

Col. Jamal further said that the main objective of this golf tournament is to support Tourism Malaysia’s campaign on ‘Cuti Cuti Malaysia’ through golf events like such with the intention to stimulate the golf tourism industry in Johor. Therefore, to make this year’s event more exciting for the first time JGTA featured a Tourism Johor Golf Festival which was launched by En Ahmad Johanif Mohd Ali, the Senior Deputy Director of Package Development Division of Tourism Malaysia. The Festival which is opened to the public, showcased local products by about 40 SMEs and food trucks as well as golf clubs, hospitality and tours companies from Johor and Kuala Lumpur.

To add more to the excitement the Festival also featured many performances such as Erry Putra, traditional dances from SK Muzaffar Syah, Kota Tinggi, SMK Tan Sri Jaafar Albar, Kota Tinggi and violinist Ajib. The kids were also entertained by clown shows, magic shows as well as cosplay super heroes appearance by Marvel comics Iron Man and Black Panther, DC comics Superman and Batman and Bumblebee.

Also, another exciting offering for the kids was a special showcase by Legoland Exhibition Bus that is equipped with a mini exhibition of Legos onboard for kids to experience and enjoy the games and activities offered by Legoland Malaysia. Not only that, the Heath Office from Bandar Penawar had also joined the Festival to offer free health screening to the golfers as well as members of the public.
