The Royal Langkawi International Regatta is back

The 20th Royal Langkawi International Regatta returns to Langkawi with 33 boats and over 250 participants, reinforcing Malaysia’s status as a key sailing and sports tourism destination.

Langkawi – The curtain-raiser for the international sailing regatta in the South East Asian 2024 calendar is back again in Langkawi, from the 15th – the 20th of January 2024. This year marks a significant milestone in the event’s history: its 20th edition.

This year, the highly anticipated annual event at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club will see 33 boats, with more than 250 participants. This famous annual event aims to position Malaysia and Langkawi as a prominent sailing destination while promoting sailing and boosting sports tourism for the country.

The 33 sailing boats are from Malaysia, Thailand, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, the USA, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, China and Vietnam.

The Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) will see competition in 7 classes – Racing, IRC1, IRC2, Multihull, Sports Boats, Club Class and Ocean Rover/White Sail. The winners of each class will be awarded the following prestigious trophies, namely: the Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy (Racing class), LADA-IRC Challenge Trophy (IRC 1 class), RLIR-IRC 2 Challenge Trophy (IRC 2 class), the Commodore’s Challenge Cup (Club class), the Langkawi Sports Trophy (Sports Boat class) and Malaysia Multihull Challenge Cup (Multihull class).

In addition, the Tunku Abdullah Sportsmanship Award will be presented for the best team in sportsmanship, both on water and land.

The RLIR graciously acknowledges its co-partner Belt and Road Regatta (BRR) as well as the sponsors: Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) – an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, the Kedah State Government, Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF), ALJ Global Sdn Bhd, Hypergear, Liquid Marketing Sdn Bhd and Rainman.
