The 22nd edition of International Meetings Exhibition back to Tokyo

IME 2012 is one of Japan’s leading events for the MICE industry. It will be hosted in Tokyo on December 11 and 12.

TOKYO- The 22nd International Meetings Exhibition (IME 2012) organized jointly by Japan Tourism Agency, Japan Congress Convention Bureau (JCCB) and Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), will be held at the Tokyo International Forum in Yurakucho on Tuesday, December 11 and Wednesday, December 12.

Starting this year, Nikkei Business Publications (Nikkei BP) will involved in planning and operations, and has prepared a host of new events backed up by a management stance.

The global MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Event/Exhibition) business is growing steadily, and especially rapid growth in the number of events is expected in the nations of East Asia experiencing such massive economic development. According to Union of International Associations (UIA) data on the number of international conferences, Japan rose from fifth place in 2009 to second place in 2010, behind the United States, but competition has grown intense in recent years as more nations recognize the growth potential in the MICE market.

The MICE market is expected to show considerable growth in the future as well, and the time is ripe to strength Japan’s competitiveness, and attract key business people and tourists from around the world. The International Meetings Exhibition (IME) positions MICE as an industry in itself, and held for the 22nd time this year as the key event in the field in East Asia will draw about 3,000 industry people.

On Wednesday, a Japan Tourism Agency Special Symposium will be held about the “Significance, Economic Effect and Importance of MICE”. The presentation and talk panel will look at the competitiveness of Japan in the MICE field as viewed from overseas. It will welcome as guest speakers Norifumi Ide (Commissioner, Japan Tourism Agency), Gary Grimmer (CEO, GainingEdge) and other leading personalities in the MICE field.
