Thailand Eco & Adventure Travel Mart 2010 set for 25-27 June

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) together with the Thai Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association (TEATA) will organize the Thailand Eco and Adventure Travel Mart 2010 during 25-27 June, 2010, at the Royal Hill Golf Resort and Spa in Nakhon Nayok province.

The event is expected to be attended by about 100 seller tourism-related businesses who will be meeting up with roughly 139 buyers registered so far. They include domestic buyers (60), buyers from Asia and ASEAN (24), and Europe (16). Another 39 buyers are offering tour programmes for the general public.

Ecotourism and adventure travel are rapidly-growing trends amongst a niche-market customer segment at a time when the world is becoming increasingly concerned about the ecological impact of economic growth.

TAT is stepping up its marketing campaigns to give more prominence and exposure to the broad range of Thai products in the fields of responsible tourism, sustainability, and ecotourism.

These products include numerous villages nationwide which have been surveyed and qualified for inclusion under an European Union-funded initiative called Community-Based Tourism (CBT), as well birdwatching trips, eco-friendly diving, bicycling tours, and nature walks.

TAT together with TEATA and the European Union has just organised a fam trip for European buyers and media to publicise the CBT villages and numerous other grassroots and eco-friendly products along four suggested routes covering different parts of North, Northeast, and Central Thailand.

The carefully-planned itineraries were designed to showcase the best of Thai cultural heritage as well as the preservation of traditional Thai life, supporting communities’ natural resources management, art, wisdom, architecture, agriculture, gastronomy, and wellness.

Thailand has also produced a special booklet called Go Responsible Ecotourism and Enjoy Thailand (GREET) which features a range of such programmes and products nationwide.

Nakhon Nayok has been specifically chosen to host this year’s Thailand Eco and Adventure Travel Mart for several reasons.

Located just 106 kilometres from Bangkok, and accessible via a world-class highway network, the province has many wonderful natural attractions that can be typically visited by day trippers or those making a brief stopover en route to other destinations. These include waterfalls and parks, renowned historical sites, a number of soft adventure activities, and a variety of agricultural products.

TAT Governor Suraphon Svetasreni said, “The timing of this mart is proving to be just right because it will give buyers, sellers and consumers a valuable opportunity to check out some of the latest products in ecotourism and adventure travel. We believe that both domestic and foreign tourism will benefit substantially as a result.”

Over 100 domestic eco and adventure tourism business operators from the five regions of Thailand are exhibiting this year, many of them with special offers exclusively targeted at buyers and visitors to the event.

The Mart will be accompanied by a cultural performance of Thai folk and classical dance, Thai popular singers’ concert, and entertainment from the five Thai regions.

Visitors will also be able try their hand at activities, such as, cliff-climbing, kayaking, ATV driving, canoeing, archery, BB-Gun, Balloon, Buggy Rally, etc. As befitting the tradition at all Thai events, there will be a special area for Thai cuisine with many popular dishes, including many original recipes from all regions of Thailand, for sale.

Buyers and media will have a chance to participate in three days of pre-tours to various parts of Thailand before the Mart begins. The trade event will take place all day on 25 June followed by two days for consumers over the weekend of 26-27 June.

TAT Nakhon Nayok has also invited all participants to join a bicycle caravan and tree-planting ceremony in Thap Lan National Park, Prachin Buri province on 26 June, 2010.
