Thai AirAsia announces readiness to acquire 7 new Airbus aircraft next year

Thai AirAsia forecasts to boost its presence into the Chinese and Indochinese markets as well as to increase its domestic frequencies thanks to the introduction of seven new aircraft.

BANGKOK- Thai AirAsia confirms at the end of last week that it will add in 2013 an additional seven new Airbus A320s to its fleet. The expanded number of aircraft will help bolster its coverage both on domestic, China and Indochina routes, continued building on its success of this year.

Tassapon Bijleveld, Chief Executive Officer of ThaiAirAsia, stated that next year (2013) Thai AirAsia has set its sights on adding new seven Airbus A320s to its fleet, adhering for growth expansion. According to the airline’s forecast, 2013 should then end up with a fleet of 34 aircraft, up from a current total of 27.

“The new Airbus aircraft to arrive in 2013 will be added to Thai AirAsia network on most popular routes especially in China as well as on upcoming destinations, where we plan to continue for expansion. They will also provide the opportunity for us to increase our flight frequencies domestically, adding even more convenient traveling time to our passengers.” Tassapon Bijleveld assured.

In 2012, Thai AirAsia added 5 Airbus A320s to its fleet. The ultimate target until 2015 is to approach a fleet of 48 aircraft. The airline currently flies to thirty destinations around Asia including 12 within Thailand.

By contrary, development looks more difficult for Philippines Air Asia as the carrier suspended in December its routes from Clark airport to Puerto Princesa as well as to Macau. From February, it will also terminate its flights from Clark to Kota Kinabalu.
