Tourism Authority of Thailand`s Governor Chutamas Siriwan today expressed confidence the overall picture of tourism remained favorable, saying representative offices overseas had been instructed to accelerate give proper understanding of the situation in the country.

She said she told the office staff to be swift in providing accurate information to foreign tourists because most of them had kept monitoring of news on tsunamis on televisions.

Local and foreign news stations had mostly covered devastating damages in afflicted areas. Although they presented news on the coordinated help for victims by Thai people in all walks of life, some foreign tourists understood Thailand remained in difficulties.

So, it is a duty of the representative offices to accelerate giving proper understanding on the situation and promoting public relations to restore confidence.

She conceded the tsunami attack had definitely affected tourism as could be witnessed by slow activities in Phuket, Pang-nga, and Krabi provinces despite the tourism season.

As a result, she saw a need to speed up promoting public relations to ensure foreign tourists understand the real situation.

However, the overall picture of tourism remained sound, as the number of tourists continued to visit other areas of the country in this tourism season.
