STR Global reports April 2010 Asia/Pacific hotel pipeline
The Asia/Pacific hotel development pipeline comprises 1,004 hotels totalling 252,584 rooms, according to the April 2010 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report released last week. Among the countries in the region, China accounted for more than 50 percent of the total active pipeline, reporting 133,062 rooms. The country also reported the most rooms in the In Construction phase with 96,431 rooms. India reported 45,583 rooms in the total active pipeline, followed by Thailand (16,018 rooms) and Vietnam (11,084 rooms). Among the key markets, Shanghai, China, reported the most rooms in the total active pipeline (14,289) and in the In Construction phase (11,720). Bangkok, Thailand, ended the month with 9,676 rooms in the total active pipeline and 5,777 rooms in the In Construction phase. New Delhi, India, followed with 7,183 rooms in the total active pipeline and 5,424 rooms in the In Construction phase. Two of the seven Chain Scale segments accounted for more than 20 percent of rooms in the total active pipeline. The Upper Upscale segment made up 24.6 percent of the total active pipeline with 62,094 rooms and the Upscale segment accounted for 23.7 percent with 59,777 rooms.

STR reports Caribbean and Mexico hotel pipeline for April 2010
The Caribbean/Mexico hotel development pipeline comprises 133 hotels totaling 17,018 rooms, according to the April 2010 STR/TWR/Dodge Construction Pipeline Report released this week. Mexico reported the most rooms in the total active pipeline (10,852 rooms) and in the In Construction phase (5,336) among the countries of the region. The Dominican Republic (1,874 rooms) and Puerto Rico (1,445 rooms) also reported a significant number of rooms in the total active pipeline. Two of the seven Chain Scale segments, accounted for more than 50 percent of the total active pipeline combined. The Midscale without Food and Beverage segment made up 28.0 percent with 4,763 rooms and the Upscale segment accounted for 24.1 percent with 4,099 rooms. The Midscale with Food and Beverage segment (5.9 percent and 1,001 rooms) and the Economy segment (4.1 percent and 696 rooms) made up the smallest portions of the total active pipeline.

STR Global reports Central/South America hotel pipeline for April 2010
The Central/South America hotel development pipeline comprises 134 hotels totalling 21,628 rooms, according to the April 2010 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report released this week. Among the countries in the region, Brazil reported the largest number of rooms in the total active pipeline (7,854) and in the In Construction phase (3,536). Panama followed with 5,094 rooms in the total active pipeline and 2,777 rooms in the In Construction phase. Panama City, Panama, reported the largest number of rooms in the total active pipeline (4,589) among the key markets in the region. The market also reported the largest number of rooms in the In Construction phase, with 2,777. Three of the seven Chain Scale segments each accounted for more than 20 percent of rooms in the total active pipeline. The Upscale segment made up the largest portion of the total active pipeline with 27.2 percent and 5,887 rooms, followed by the Economy segment (22.0 percent and 4,748 rooms) and the Upper Upscale segment (21.5 percent and 4,643 rooms).

STR Global reports Europe hotel pipeline for April 2010
The Europe hotel development pipeline comprises 675 hotels totalling 116,935 rooms, according to the April 2010 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report released this week. The region reported 329 projects in the In Construction phase with 59,621 rooms. Among the countries of the region, the United Kingdom reported 25,684 rooms in the total active pipeline, accounting for more than 20 percent of the region’s total active pipeline. The country also ended the month with the most rooms in the In Construction phase with 11,711 rooms. Germany reported 16,822 rooms in the total active pipeline and 8,593 rooms in the In Construction phase, followed by Russia with 15,935 rooms in the total active pipeline and 7,329 rooms in the In Construction phase. Among the key markets, London, U.K., reported the most rooms in the total active pipeline (7,962 rooms) as well as in the In Construction phase (3,492 rooms). Three other markets reported more than 3,000 rooms in the total active pipeline for the month: Berlin, Germany (4,095 rooms); Moscow, Russia (4,028 rooms); and Vienna (3,241 rooms). Stockholm, Sweden, reported that nearly 90 percent of rooms in the total active pipeline are in the In Construction phase, ending the month with 2,867 rooms in the total active pipeline and 2,500 rooms in the In Construction phase. 199 projects comprising 32,665 rooms are expected to open in the region during 2010.

STR Global reports Middle East/Africa hotel pipeline for April 2010
The Middle East/Africa hotel development pipeline comprises 467 hotels totalling 128,903 rooms, according to the April 2010 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report released this week. Among the countries in the region, the United Arab Emirates ended the month with the most rooms in the total active pipeline with 56,187 rooms. UAE also reported the most rooms in the In Construction phase with 29,125 rooms. Saudi Arabia reported 15,770 rooms in the total active pipeline, followed by Egypt (7,178 rooms) and Qatar (6,041 rooms). Among the key markets in region, Dubai, UAE, reported the largest number of rooms in the total active pipeline (32,753) and in the In Construction phase (16,539), followed by Abu Dhabi, UAE, with 14,558 rooms in the total active pipeline and 7,849 rooms in the In Construction phase. Three of the seven Chain Scale segments each accounted for 20 percent or more of rooms in the total active pipeline. The Upper Upscale segment made up the largest portion of the total active pipeline with 26.7 percent and 34,375 rooms, followed by the Unaffiliated segment (24.9 percent and 32,160 rooms) and the Luxury segment (20.3 percent and 26,155 rooms).
