STR and STR Global releases global hotel development pipelines for the Asia/Pacific, Caribbean/Mexico, Central/South America, Europe, and Middle East/Africa regions for June 2011.

STR Global reports Asia/Pacific hotel pipeline for June 2011
The Asia/Pacific hotel development pipeline comprises 1,240 hotels totalling 307,346 rooms, according to the June 2011 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.

Among the Chain Scale segments, the Upper Upscale segment accounted for the largest portion of rooms in the total active pipeline with 26.6 percent and 81,611 rooms. Three other segments each accounted for more than 15 percent of rooms: the Upscale segment (23.0 percent with 70,748 rooms); the Luxury segment (18.1 percent with 55,551 rooms); and the Unaffiliated segment (16.9 percent with 51,793 rooms). The Economy segment made up the smallest portion of rooms in the total active pipeline with 0.9 percent and 2,911 rooms.

STR reports Caribbean/Mexico hotel pipeline for June 2011
The Caribbean/Mexico hotel development pipeline comprises 130 hotels totalling 19,582 rooms, according to the June 2011 STR Construction Pipeline Report.

Among the countries in the region, Mexico ended the month with the largest number of rooms in the total active pipeline with 12,091 rooms. More than 50 percent of Mexico’s rooms in the total active pipeline are in the In Construction phase (6,525 rooms). Other countries to report a significant number of rooms in the total active pipeline include: the Bahamas (1,604 rooms); the Dominican Republic (1,603 rooms); Jamaica (860 rooms); and Puerto Rico (650 rooms).

STR Global reports Central/South America hotel pipeline for June 2011
The Central/South America hotel development pipeline comprises 169 hotels totalling 27,676 rooms, according to the June 2011 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.

Among the Chain Scale segments, the Upscale segment accounted for the largest portion of rooms in the total active pipeline with 26.0 percent and 7,193 rooms. Three other segments each made up more than 10 percent of rooms in the total active pipeline: the Midscale segment (25.2 percent with 6,963 rooms); the Upper Upscale segment (22.7 percent with 6,294 rooms); and the Upper Midscale segment (12.1 percent with 3,348 rooms). The Economy segment made up the smallest portion of rooms in the pipeline with 3.8 percent and 1,062 rooms.

The Europe hotel development pipeline comprises 786 hotels totalling 127,520 rooms, according to the June 2011 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.

Among the countries in the region, the United Kingdom ended the month with the largest number of rooms under construction with15,038 rooms (of the 38,339 rooms in the country’s total active pipeline). Other countries to report a significant number of rooms under construction: Russia (6,341 rooms); Germany (5,583 rooms); Turkey (4,343 rooms); and France (3,172 rooms).

STR Global reports Middle East/Africa hotel pipeline for June 2011
The Middle East/Africa hotel development pipeline comprises 466 hotels totalling 127,704 rooms, according to the June 2011 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.

Among the key markets in the region, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, ended the month with the largest number of rooms under construction with 13,359 rooms (of the 27,564 rooms in the market’s total active pipeline). Four other markets reported more than 1,000 rooms under construction: Abu Dhabi, UAE (7,438 rooms); Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (3,312 rooms); Cairo, Egypt (1,977 rooms); and Amman, Jordan (1,547 rooms).
