Movenpick Hotels & Resorts is taking another major step in its expansion into Asia. In mid-2006 the Swiss hotel group took over a holiday resort on Phuket/Thailand; now it has just signed a management agreement with Maxz Universal Development Group for a new development on Sentosa Island, Singapore. The resort is scheduled to open at the end of 2008.

We decided in favour of Movenpick Hotels & Resorts because it enjoys a reliable reputation as a hotel operator in so many markets and is considered as an innovative newcomer in the Asian hotel landscape, explained Seeto Keong, CEO of the Maxz Universal Development Group. We are confident that its expertise, service and quality standards, combined with its typically Swiss values, will fully satisfy the requirements of the market.
The project consists firstly of an existing historical building built in the colonial style around 1940, which will be completely renovated as part of a development aimed at retaining the listed facade and restoring it to its former splendour. Secondly, a new extension comprised essentially of rooms with sea view will be added to the hotel.
The resort’s unique architectural and historical elements are certain to bring new life to the region’s history by adding a contemporary touch, says Andreas Mattmuller, Senior Vice President Middle East & Asia Movenpick Hotels & Resorts.
