Sichuan: not only the hometown of pandas

"2013 Sichuan International Cultural Tourism Festival" press conference was held in Chengdu, Sichuan recently. Sichuan Provincial Information Office chaired the conference, during which, Sichuan Tourism Bureau reported the performance of tourism sector in the first half year and representatives from Langzhong, where the festival will be hosted this year, reported the progress of their preparation for the event.

CHENGDU – Sichuan Province has long been famous as the hometown of Chinese giant pandas especially in the eyes of foreign tourists, however, it is a well-developed international destination with much more wonders and attractions. From 18th September to 20th September 2013, the sixth “Sichuan International Cultural Tourism Festival” will be held in the ancient city of Langzhong (Nanchong City), Sichuan, where representatives from all over the world can experience another kind of unique history and culture of Sichuan.

After the success of previous festivals, the “International Cultural Tourism Festival” has become one of the most influential events within tourism industry in Sichuan, with the help of which, the province is able to enhance its cooperation with both domestic and overseas businesses, discuss sustainable development with international organizations as well as set up communication with other destinations.

The theme of the festival this year is “Beautiful Sichuan, Meet in Langzhong”, during which, more than 300 representatives from PATA, foreign consular officials, travel agents in Hong Kong and Taiwan, domestic travel agencies, aviation, tourism enterprises as well as domestic and international media participants will be invited. Besides, officers from national, provincial and local tourism bureaus will also attend the event.  

Main activities included in the festival are: 1. Opening ceremony and the presentation of tourism products in the ancient city of Langzhong; 2. Sichuan Tourism Commodities Fair; 3. The second “Jialing River Tour” Tourism Alliance annual meeting; 4. The “Jialing Landscape Show” – tourism photography exhibition; 5. The opening of Jialing River cruise line; 6. The fifth Chinese Shengzhong Lake Fishing Cultural Festival.
 
Langzhong is a city in northeastern Sichuan province, located on the middle reaches of the Jialing River. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it served as the provisional provincial capital for a total of 10 years. And during that period of time, the unique culture and appearance of the ancient city of Langzhong was formed.

The Tourism Festival adhere to its principle as “highlighting characteristics and displaying the destination image” aiming to present an unique and attractive Sichua to the world, as well as promote itself as an international welcomed tourism destination.

In addition, the PATA Travel Mart 2013 will be held in Chengdu, Sichuan during 15th –17th September just before the festival, which will brings together hundreds of international buyers and sellers in one marketplace. As the first city to host PTM in Midwest China, Chengdu and Sichuan will attract more attention from the world.
