PATA Chapter awards recognise ‘Spirit’ and ‘Excellence’

The ‘incredible’ determination and resolve displayed by PATA Chapter members in India in the wake of the November 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai has been acknowledged with the ‘Spirit of PATA’ Award for 2010. The ‘Award of Excellence’ for 2010 goes to the PATA Chapter in Micronesia, recognising the intelligent use of social media and creative marketing to promote a new-look Micronesia brand.

For the ‘Spirit of PATA’ award, judges were impressed with the Chapter’s success in promoting both outbound and inbound tourism through its ‘Scandi roadshow’ as well as various advocacy and community relations projects. Its new website also ‘showed promise as a communications and development vehicle’, judges stated.

PATA Micronesia Chapter organised an impressive range of activities in 2009 and showed further commitment to industry training. The Chapter displayed solid progress with e-guides for the islands and has demonstrated its efforts to promote the Micronesia brand.

The awards will be presented next month at a PATA Foundation gala dinner in Kuching, Sarawak as part of the Association’s annual meeting programme that also includes a special workshop for all Chapters worldwide.
