JIA Shanghai opened its doors to the public on 10 August 2007 as the city’s design-led boutique residence concept. With the opening, the group’s 28 year-old Singaporean founder and owner Ms. Yenn Wong continues the expansion of her JIA Boutique Hotels concept from Hong Kong to China’s hottest city.

JIA Shanghai will open just three years after the successful launch of JIA Hong Kong, and following the opening of restaurants OPIA in JIA Hong Kong in 2005 and Graze in Singapore last year and recently, Muse Bar at the Singapore National Museum.

JIA Shanghai marks the first of several more boutique concepts planned in the region as the owner said.

“I am excited about introducing the JIA concept in such a great city as Shanghai,” comments Yenn, “…and we will be expanding further with more new hotel, residence and restaurant projects in Asia soon to be announced.”

Yenn took the approach of appointing three different designers to create the interiors of JIA Shanghai.

JIA Shanghai was developed as a joint venture between Yenn Wong and Hong Kong-based Indonesian businessman John Aryananda.

In booming Shanghai, it aims to emulate the success of JIA Hong Kong, the first Philippe Starck-designed boutique hotel in Asia which has since become a “home from home” for the fashionable crowd, with its 54 hotel rooms including two Penthouses.

“Hong Kong was ready for a boutique hotel for some time and when the opportunity presented itself I naturally seized it,” said Yenn. “And now we are extremely excited about establishing our boutique residence in Shanghai”.
