From 2007 on, the Annual Summits of the World Tourism Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development will be held in a new host-country. The selection process for the new host has already started, the deadline for bidding submission being August 18th 2006. The candidate to host Destinations2007 must be either a government or a third sector organization. In the second case, and as well in the cases when the candidate is not a direct official representative of the National Government, it must have its bid officially supported by the maximum national tourism instance.

Launched in Brazil (2003), the World Tourism Forum has already mobilized thousands of people from all over the world, a network for experience exchange has been activated, hundreds of companies and governmental and third sector organizations have already joined the cause. These summits are a moment for gathering the developed initiatives around the world towards the development of tourism as a key element for creating conditions for peace, social and economic development, cultural diversity and biodiversity preservation.

In two years, the Forum’s Annual Summits brought together over 6,000 people from 86 countries, which discussed and disseminated 142 cases evidencing concrete examples from 53 countries of how tourism can promote peace and sustainable development in a global exchange of experiences, strategies and innovating solutions. Destinations2006, to be hosted from November 29th to December 2nd, in the southern city of Porto Alegre, is expected to gather around 5,000 participants for its technical agenda alone.
