Movenpick’s ‘Kilo of Kindness’ campaign couples charitable school supplies with free ice cream

Guests and visitors at participating hotels in the Middle East and Asia are invited to donate school supplies.

BANGKOK – To mark the United Nations International Day of Charity on 5 September, Movenpick Hotels & Resorts has launched the latest initiative as part of its ‘Kilo of Kindness’ drive.

In the upcoming campaign, the hospitality company is drawing attention to the importance of supporting education as a charitable initiative. September is traditionally a time for students to return to school after the summer. Yet for many children in disadvantaged communities, the books, stationary, clothing and other educational materials required to optimise their learning, cannot always be counted on.

For Movenpick’s ‘A Kilo of Kindness for a treat of ice cream’ campaign, guests and residents are invited to visit the 16 participating hotels to donate at least a kilo of learning supplies to organisations that will distribute these in their respective communities. Each person who makes a donation will get an ice cream as a small gesture of appreciation.

Supplies can be dropped off from 21 August to 1 September 2016. The participating properties are located in Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand and the Philippines.

“Education is such a profound way to change the world for the better. With this initiative, we unite with the public to make the wonderful process of learning and discovery even more positive for young students,” said Andreas Mattmuller, Chief Operating Officer of Movenpick Hotels & Resorts, Middle East and South Asia. “Last year we collected 1,285 kg of charitable supplies and we hope that we can improve on that figure this year.”

‘A Kilo of Kindness’ is part of Movenpick Hotels & Resorts’ global sustainability programme Shine, which aims to give back to the communities where the company operates properties. Shine’s practices are grouped around three pillars – Environment, Employer and Social Sustainability – with Education forming the common thread as a key focus.
