MGTO attended the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Travel Trade Cooperation Summit” in Hong Kong

Travel trade from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area communicated and exchanged ideas with each other during the tourism trade travel mart, together discussing the future outlook and business opportunities of the Bay Area.

Co-organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong (TIC), the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Travel Trade Cooperation Summit (the “Summit”) was held in Hong Kong on 21th December, with the aim to facilitate cooperation between travel trade within the region in addition to explore on the opportunities for tourism development of the Bay Area. Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes attended the Summit in Hong Kong together with travel trade and media from Macao. During the Summit, travel trade of the Bay Area signed a cooperation agreement.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Travel Trade Cooperation Summit was held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, its programme including a tourism trade travel mart, “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Travel Trade Cooperation Agreement” signing ceremony, keynote speeches on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, luncheon and a press interview session. A total of about 300 guests and travel trade representatives from the Bay Area attended the Summit.

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Edward Yau Tang-wah; Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Philip Yung Wai-hung; Deputy Director of Asia Tourism Exchange Center, Cui Suxiang; Director General of Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, Zeng Yingru; Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Municipal Government, Wang Dong; Vice Mayor of Shenzhen Municipal Government, Wu Yihuan; Member of the Standing Committee of the Zhuhai Municipal Party Committee, Guo Caiwu; and MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Peter Lam Kin-Ngok; and Chairman of Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, Jason Wong attended the signing ceremony.

Representative from the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, Travel Industry Council of Macau, Guangzhou Travel Services Association, Shenzhen Travel Agencies Association, Zhuhai Travel Service Industry Association, Foshan Tourism Association, Huizhou Tourism Association, Dongguan Travel Agencies Association, Zhongshan Tourism Association, Tourism Industry Association of Jiangmen and Zhaoqing Tourism Association signed the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Travel Trade Cooperation Agreement” under the witness of attending guests. The agreement aims to enhance communication, exchange and visit among travel trade of the involved cities, discuss plans for cooperation, explore new multi-destination tour routes and jointly build up a tourism brand with resource advantage among others.

The themes of the different keynote speeches at the Summit cover “The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Planning and Development Outlook”, “The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Infrastructure and Transportation Development Blueprint” and “The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Tourism Resources and Opportunities”. Speakers include Chief Statistician of the National Tourism Data Center of the China National Tourism Administration, Dr. Tang Xiaoyun; Deputy Director of Airport Operations of the Airport Authority Hong Kong, Vivian Cheung; President of CTS Academy for Tourism Industry of the China National Travel Service Group Corporation, Chen Wenjie; Associate Professor of the School of Tourism Management of the Sun Yat-sen University, Jason Liang Zengxian. The scholars and experts shared their insightful perspectives with the participants, as well as offered valuable opinions on the future development of the Bay Area, which will serve for precious reference on regional cooperation within the Bay Area in parallel with national development strategies.
