Korean Air to ‘readily’ use stun guns on troublesome passengers

The air carrier also informed that it would also give additional security training to the crew members to ensure the safety of the passengers.

South Korean airline Korean Air revealed on 27th December that in order to manage the in-flight disturbances, the airline will let the crew members to “readily use stun guns”on the problematic passengers from now on. The airline was criticized by the singer Richard Marx about their poor in-flight safety standard involving violent passengers.

The air carrier also informed that it would also give additional security training to the crew members to ensure the safety of the passengers.

The singer from US, Marx took a Korean Air flight from Vietnam to South Korea, where he found ‘a psycho passenger attacking crew members and other passengers’, he also witnessed that the airline crew members did not even know how to handle the ‘chaotic’ event. Marx also termed the crew members to be ‘ill-equipped’. The posts by Marx and his wife on the social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram later went viral, which caused the airline to take a bold step.

Wife of Marx, Daisy Fuentes, who also boarded the jet, informed that the crew did not even know how to use the taser and how to secure the rope around the violent passenger.

The airline later informed that the crew hesitated to use the taser as they were only allowed to use it on ‘grave’ and life threatening situations.

The airline also informed in a formal statement that they have decided to improve their conditions and procedure on using Taser guns to cope with violent acts and disturbances on board in a fast and efficient manner.
