The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry(FICCI) has recently announced the launch of its maiden edition of “Wings India Awards 2018” for Excellence in the Aviation Sector in partnership with Airport Authority of India. The Wings India Awards are conferred upon the Aviation-related Companies/Institutions/Organizations that have created benchmarks and made notable contributions in the area of Civil Aviation in India.

The RCS: Regional Connectivity Scheme, termed as UDAN (UdeDeshKeAamNagrik), is an ambitious scheme of the Government of India, wherein the government is striving to make the air connectivity affordable and accessible to the common man in the country.

Within six months of operations, Jindal Vijayanagar Airport has become a hotspot for the tourists and business passengers who travel to the Vijayanagar region of North Karnataka. The flight operations at the airport are managed by Trujet, Turbo Megha Airways Private Limited. Currently the airport connects Vijayanagar to Bengaluru and Hyderabad, which are the important trade centres and the capitals of two major South Indian states. The airline operates brand new ATR-72 aircraft on these two routes.

It was the conviction, and vision of Mr Sajjan Jindal, Chairman, JSW Group which led to the opening of the airport. Shri Jindal, has always tried to pay back to the people and the glorious land of Vijayanagar, who have made JSW Group what it is today. It is nothing other than his love of the people of this nation and the region in specific that led to the setup of the airport in the region.

JSW Steel Vijayanagar work, on September 21st, 2017 dedicated its airport to the people of this nation. On the same day, the first flight under RCS was flagged-off to Hyderabad by Mr Jayant Sinha, Hon’ble Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Government of India.

The path towards opening the airport to the people of the nation was duly facilitated by the Union and State governments. It took immense hard work and indomitable will to start the operations. A plethora of requisite clearances were achieved by JSW Steel in a short span of one year. This Airport could reach this milestone due to efforts and contribution made by  Mr TS Gouda, Airport Director- Jindal Vijayanagar Airport and Mr Mohan Chandran, ATC Consultant.

Today all the passenger facilities at the airport are absolutely free. The JSW Group does not levy any airport maintenance fees, or even the parking charges. It is perhaps the only airport in the nation to give free night parking facilities to the flight operators/commuters. The Airport also provides free office space to our airline partners. These reasons left the officials in the ministry in awe. Several that we have not seen officials from any corporate player toiling so hard to open the facilities to the nation for no pecuniary or any other benefits whatsoever.

Jindal VijayanagarAirport today is a state of the art airport and boasts of several state of the art passenger amenities which include Night parking for both aircrafts and passenger vehicles. There is a fully operational food stall, Walk-able tarmac and hanger, fully operation reverse osmosis filters. In order to further strengthen the passenger terminal expansion and navigational facilities, JSW has pledged to invest a sum of Rs. 78 Crores in the next two years. Moreover to improve passenger safety, JSW will further invest a sum of Rs. 2.4 Crores during the same period.

Today Jindal Vijayanagar Airport serves over 250 people daily. It would not have been possible without the active and unparalleled support of The Airport Authority of India (AAI), Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India and the State Government of Karnataka. JSW salutes their unstinting cooperation, without which this feat was unthinkable.
