Jakarta’s Halim Airport re-opens for domestic commercial flights starting January 2014

Halim Perdanakusuma Airport will therefore function as supplementary airport only, for domestic regular flights and on specified routes only.

JAKARTA – Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, located close to the capital city will reopen to handle domestic commercial flights starting early January, 2014, said General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II, Iwan Krishadianto. The move has become urgent since Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has become overburdened with the annual surge in domestic and international flights as well as passengers travelling through the airport. Many flights have had to circle above the city before given the landing clearance.

Financial Director of AP II, Laurensius Manurung, confirmed to Bisnis Indonesia, that Halim Airport, which had meanwhile served only VVIP flights, is today set to receive domestic flights only, that are moved from the Soekarno-Hatta airport, and are not on new routes.

Airlines who have expressed the intention to move a number of their flights to Halim Airport include Citilink, Garuda Indonesia, Kalstar, Sky Aviation, AirAsia Indonesia, Jatayu, Lion Air, Batik Air, Mandala and Sriwijaya Air.

Halim Airport is estimated to serve 72 regular flight-movements daily, namely two each per hour from 06.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 18.00 hrs – 21 hrs local time, and three flights hourly between 12.00- 18.00 hrs.

There will be three entry gates to receive the expected 500 passengers per hour.  Renovations on the terminal, and the installation of equipment and facilities are ongoing and will be ready by end December for operation.

Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma airport has a capacity for 2 million passengers, but to date receives only 13.4% of its total capacity.
