International conference ‘Tourism Futures’ 2 – 5 November 2011

The conference ‘Tourism Futures’, organised by the European Tourism Futures Institute (ETFI) from November 2-5, 2011 at Stenden University Leeuwarden (NL), aims to actively engage experts in future studies, academics and practitioners in vibrant discussions on tourism futures. These themes include diverse topics such as rapid technological developments and counter movements such as the search for authenticity. During workshops current themes such as creative cities, hotels of the future, slow marketing and emerging and submerging markets will be discussed.

The conference will be officially opened by Marcio Favilla, representative of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), who will discuss the UNWTO study ‘Tourism Towards 2030’ during his keynote. Other relevant topics such as Hotel of the Future, the Future of Sleep, Scenario planning and recently updated Shell scenario’s will be highlighted by other national and international keynote speakers like Ari Bjorkvist, Ian Yeoman en Peter Heymans.

In the workshops topics like creative cities, slow marketing and emerging and submerging markets will be discussed.

Tourism is the largest and fastest growing industry in the world. The complexity of the sector and future developments represent a significant challenge for the industry. The conference of ETFI aims to stimulate creativity and imagination to anticipate on the various futures of tourism and leisure.
