Hospitality and Tourism Association of Seychelles meets islands’ Minister responsible for Tourism as 2016 comes to a close

During the discussions, many points were discussed, and these included the request for a meeting early in 2017 with President Danny Faure and another with the Minister responsible for Employment.

The Board of Directors of the Seychelles Hospitality and Tourism Association (SHTA) met on Friday morning, December 23, with Minister Alain St.Ange, the island’s Minister responsible for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, at the Ministry’s ESPACE Building Offices in Victoria. The delegation of the industry’s association was being headed by the Acting Chairperson, Alan Mason.

On his part, Minister St.Ange was being accompanied at this end-of-year meeting by Anne Lafortune, the PS for Tourism, and Sherin Francis, the CEO of the Tourism Board. “It was important for us to meet to look together at our challenges and successes as we get to the end of this current year in order for us to start 2017 with a clear agenda with what we need to tackle together as an industry and as a country. As the Ministry, we remain your facilitators, and we shall continue to be exactly that,” said Minister St.Ange as he opened the meeting.

During the discussions, many points were discussed, and these included the request for a meeting early in 2017 with President Danny Faure and another with the Minister responsible for Employment. President Faure was chairing the tourism cross-sectorial meeting when he was Vice President, and the tourism trade wanted to discuss not just the future of that important meeting, but also the unresolved issues brought by the private sector.

Many other matters were tabled and put on a proposed agenda for the first tourism public/private sector trade meeting that will be set for early in 2017. It was also agreed that over the course of the next week, the industry’s representatives will hold a meeting at Port Victoria to be appraised on the developments of the ports in Seychelles.

The tourism private sector trade representatives and Minister St.Ange and his delegation said they were happy with the meeting and looked forward to such consultative meetings.
