Fly Asian Xpress, the new airline appointed to manage and operate turbo prop operations for domestic rationalisation, announced its readiness to open for sale on June 12th, 7 weeks in advance of schedule, and 2 weeks ahead of the 1st July target set by FAX.

The Malaysian Government has earlier fixed August 1st as the deadline for domestic rationalisation to be completed and those were the dates that FAX was working towards and not any earlier dates. The airline further unveils the new enhanced flight schedule and destinations commencing 1st August 2006.

FAX plans to expand the marketability of its new operations to attract more international appeal. Sales and distribution at all existing outlets would be enhanced to enable more avenues for people to book their flights.

As an added incentive, FAX will also make available booking to travel agents with access to Galileo GDS Platform.

The Government has given both MAS and AirAsia the deadline until 1st August 2006 to complete all transfer of operations and schedules in relations to the rationalisation of domestic routes. FAX has been working relentlessly to speed ahead with all necessary regulatory approvals to ensure that we not only get things right, but operations can take off with a flying start, said Mohamad Zahari, General Manager of FAX.

FAX would like to assure the public that there would be little disruptions to existing bookings, and that routes would not be cut as a result of this exercise. All bookings received would be honored. FAX would be enhancing the current flight schedule and connectivity to pursue tourism interests that would benefit both Sabah and Sarawak.

Our goal is to build on the very successful turbo prop services built by MAS by having a dedicated turbo prop operations which will be focussed. By being focussed we will be able to reduce losses borne by the taxpayer, provide more frequency and move towards more international connectivity connecting the Biem Ega area by having the first Biem Ega airline this further enhancing tourism and business.

We are excited by the prospects and ask the public not to be detracted by the 2 week gap. FAX is committed to building a world class turbo operations and growing tourism and business in East Malaysia. Moving forward, we would like to appeal to all tour operators and travel agents to hold bookings until flights are open for sale on 12th June, concluded Mr. Zahari.

AirAsia on 30th May announced that it has subcontracted operations of the turbo prop services (rural air services) to a new airline; FAX (Fly Asian Xpress). AirAsia would only maintain a supervisory to role to oversee

operations of turbo prop services on behalf of the Government.
