A new study by an independent cruise comparison website has revealed that 21% of those who regularly cruise for their holiday would happily live on a cruise liner; with the majority of whom labelling the ‘luxurious lifestyle available on-board’ as the main motivating factor.
In a bid to discover more about the holiday habits of Britons, a new study from an independent cruise comparison website has revealed that a fifth of those who regularly cruise would happily live on a cruise ship for the ‘rest of their life,’ whilst a further third would like to live on a cruise ship ‘after retirement’.
The study, conducted by CruiseCompare.co.uk, polled 1,293 Britons who regularly experience cruise holidays. The study aimed to look at what qualities cruisers like and dislike about cruise ships and if they would happily spend their lives living on a cruise liner.
Respondents to the study were initially asked if they would happily live on a cruise ship, to which 21% of the respondents answered ‘yes.’ A further 34% stated that they would only live on a cruise liner ‘after retirement’.
Of the respondents who admitted they would happily live on a cruise ship, more than a quarter, 26%, explained that it was because of the ‘wealth of entertainment’ on-board; whilst two fifths, 42%, explained that the ‘luxury provided on a cruise liner’ was their main reason why.
Just fewer than a tenth, 9%, of the respondents to the study stated that they would ‘never’ live on a cruise ship; with the majority, 49%, of whom explaining that it would ruin the ‘novelty’ of a cruise holiday experience.
Furthermore, when the respondents were asked if they intended to live abroad for a significant amount of time, more than three quarters, 76%, admitted that they planned to do so.
Danielle Fear, managing director of CruiseCompare.co.uk, had the following to say: “It was interesting to see that only a tenth of the sample of cruisers that we asked would never live on a cruise liner. However, the majority did have a valid reason, explaining that it would spoil the novelty that surrounds a cruising holiday. A cruise holiday is certainly a special and luxurious experience and definitely a lifestyle I could enjoy everyday!’
She continued: “Living abroad is an ambition for so many people, something that I think the British weather has to take the blame for. There is something magical about a cruise liner and sailing into the sunrise, and a life on a cruise liner would certainly be a life full of adventures.”
