Big Five Tours & Expeditions introduces new speed collection

Big Five Tours & Expeditions will be introducing a new series of journeys called the Speed Collection debuting in November for 2010. Moving forward with an initial introduction in South Africa, the Big Five Speed Collection allows travelers a rare chance to experience adrenaline-pumping adventure like never before with an odyssey in speed of all kinds.

With each leg of the 10-day itinerary designed to deliver an exhilarating experience unlike any other, Speed Collection offers rare once-in-a-lifetime chances to push the limits of speed like few ever do. Whether it is getting behind the wheel of a Formula 1 race car, going for a high speed 200-mph skim across the Atlantic, or taking to the skies in an English Electric Lightening fighter jet at Mach 1, the Speed Collection offers a trifecta of land, sea, and air to sate any daredevil’s tastes.

“Speed is my personal passion, and I have driven some incredibly fast race cars,” says Ashish Sanghrajka, President of Big Five Tours & Expeditions. “I envisioned this project as an opportunity to let others enjoy an experience that they could not find anywhere else.  There is something so completely electrifying about traveling at high speeds. The Speed Collection combines unique impossible to re-create sensations, such as pulling a Formula 1 car through a sharp bank or barrel rolling in a jet fighter. We wanted the Speed Collection to push guests beyond the ordinary luxury travel experience, and provide them something simply unforgettable.”

For automotive purists and racing fans, there is one and only one driving experience that equates to automotive nirvana: commanding an open-wheel Formula One racecar. Much like F1 driving legends such as Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Phil Hill, Dario Franchitti, and Danica Patrick, the Speed Collection offers adventurers the chance to twist around the Killarney Race Track at blindingly fast speeds to feel a rarified kind of driving power reserved for very few.

Even for those who have experienced the very best in exotic supercars, this is an automotive dream come true, slipping behind the wheel of a F1 Honda BAR car. After a morning of training and safety instruction from the track’s professional driving instructors, drivers are allowed to experience driving in its highest form at speeds north of 150 mph.

After racing at high speeds on the track, guests will be able to experience the unique sensation of high speed on the open sea. At the Cape Town waterfront, they board a special jet boat, capable of speeds up to 200 mph, for a two-hour ride along the Atlantic coast. Big Five Tours & Expeditions books this eco-friendly jet boat, which seats up to 12 passengers, exclusively for your use. Amid high speed runs, guests will also be able to view the sharks, dolphins, and whales that inhabit the area as they cut across the area’s crystal blue waters.

The Speed Collection continues delivering high intensity thrills in Cape Town, where guests will travel to the airport for a chance to take to the air, this time co-piloting one of the most adored aircraft ever designed: the Electric Lightening jet fighter. Along with a highly skilled pilot, the Speed Collection allows guests to get into the cockpit of a real Cold War era jet interceptor powered by a Rolls-Royce 302 engine. Engineered with the ability to go supersonic for dauntingly fast aerobatics, the Electric Lightening will take co-pilots in excess of Mach 1, with a climb speed of 50,000 feet per minute cutting through the blue skies above Cape Town for the ultimate in aerial views.

Designed with the ultimate thrill seeker in mind, the Speed Collection perfectly blends gripping escapades with refined luxury lodging and dining over the 10-day adventure. In addition to offering guests the opportunity to drive and fly their way through heart-pumping high speed experiences, Big Five Tours & Expeditions has also arranged other extreme adventures, including rappelling down over 3,000 feet from atop Table Mountain, one of South Africa’s most iconic symbols and  the world’s original highest abseil.

Those looking for even more adrenaline will be pleased to visit Gansbaai Harbour, where they will cage dive with massive twenty-foot-long Great White Sharks swimming off the coast for a close and personal look at one of nature’s most awesome predators. Those interested in Africa’s big game will savor a wildlife photo safari tour in Ulusaba, Sir Richard Branson’s very own private game reserve.

As a complement to the adventurous nature of this journey, guests are privy to experiencing the very best in luxury with a tour through the noted wine estates granted to the French Huguenots generations ago.  During the visit, they can enjoy a personalized estate tour and champagne tasting with owner Achim von Arnim.

In a seamless blend of adventure and luxury, Speed Collection participants are treated to the best South Africa has to offer, from the finest hotels, to the most exclusive tours and experiences, and above all things, speed.

The Speed Collection is truly a one of a kind experience, arranged exclusively by the travel experts at Big Five Tours & Expeditions.  For more information on the Speed Collection experience, contact Big Five Tours & Expeditions at (800) 244 3483, where qualified travel specialists will always be able to assist booking your own trip.
