Association clients and media experience best of both worlds in Kuching, Sarawak

In 2012, Sarawak Convention Bureau supported 45 convention bids representing 19,688 delegates, and 66,945 delegate days, which contributed an estimated direct delegate expenditure of RM39.9 million to Sarawak.

KUCHING – Select association clients and members of the media were treated to a familiarisation trip hosted by the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) with magnificent support from Pullman Kuching, CPH Travel, Events Horizon Management, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), and Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) to introduce incentive programmes and meetings facilities around Kuching, Sarawak in conjunction with the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF).

SCB’s objective with the FAM is to introduce association clients who are decision makers from their respective organisations and members of the media on the available products and services that highlight Sarawak as a prominent business events destination and a prospective venue for their corporate events.

The highlight of the trip was ‘Rhythms of the Rainforest’- a unique hospitality suite organised by BCCK set in the Bidayuh Longhouse of the Sarawak Cultural Village during the Rainforest World Music Festival organised by STB; and ‘Behind the Scenes: What Makes Great Business Events in Sarawak’ – a forum dedicated to provide an in-depth look of the business events industry with a focus on Kuching’s development followed by a discussion with industry experts. Association clients and members of the media were introduced to the movers and shakers of the industry.

“We hope through this familiarisation trip to Kuching that the media will help to create awareness and propel Sarawak’s reputation as a competitive business events destination globally,” commented Mr. Mike Cannon, Managing Director of SCB.

“Importantly, we hope that the association clients will return home with Sarawak in mind as their top venue choice for future business events in Malaysia – a destination that offers unique cultural experiences and the adventure of a lifetime outside the meeting room,” he added.

Among the sites visited include, Pullman Kuching, The Junk, Sarawak Tourism Complex, Sarawak Cultural Village, BCCK and Semenggoh Wildlife Centre where the group encountered the renowned ‘man of the forest’.

All in all, the trip was a great success and allowed the group to experience Sarawak’s unique offering from a business event’s perspective. The group departed back on the 30th June 2013, with a wonderful experience of Sarawak and it will definitely not be their last visit.
